Power: Alterred Morphology / Physiology (Fae-Type)
- Physically Altered: Megan's morphology and physiology has been drastically altered from its baseline state so as to resemble that of the legendary spiritual fae that for centuries were said to inhabit the British countryside. These changes range from more mundane visual changes such as her pointed ears, unique eyes, and the colour of her hair; to the more substantial changes such as having sprouted functioning wings, the change in her body's distribution of weight, and her ability to produce hallucinogenic dust.
- Flight: Megan possesses a set of dragonfly-like wings that sprout from the centre of her back. These wings, two on each side, are semi-translucent and coloured in a variety of bright hues. The exact colour composition of these iridescent wings and their so-called glow (for they only appear to glow but don't provide any illumination) changes from moment to moment depending on Megan's surrounding or her general mood and state of being. The wings are given structure through a lattice of hardened veins which connect to her body and nervous system through her spine. Between the lattice is the thin membrane which is both the subject of the colour modification as well as the reason she can fly. While the structure of her wings is far stronger than it appears, they are still susceptible to tearing and puncturing damage. Small tears and breaks in the membrane happen frequently due to day to day tugging, collisions, and getting caught. While they can be painful, they usually heal in a matter of hours. Large injuries, such as the partial or complete loss of a wing will certainly heal but will take a considerably longer period of time, sometimes days or even weeks. Luckily for Megan, these kinds of injuries are uncommon. They can be folded down her back and hidden in her clothes but this is painful and she dislikes doing so.
Megan's wings, when fluttered rapidly, grant her light body the ability to fly. While the top speed of her flight hasn't been properly established she can consistently fly at forty-five kilometers per hour but should she push herself to her limit she has been known to accomplish short 'sprints' of up to ninety kilometers per hour or higher. Each wing operates independently of the others, allowing her the utmost of agility in her flight. Her maneuverability is nearly perfect, meaning that she can hover, glide, fly backwards, and fly both horizontally and vertically. Rapidly changing directions or rate of travel is instinctual to her. She is most comfortable at lower altitudes, as higher altitudes or cold climates slow the blood flow to her wing muscles and hinder the speed of her fluttering. Essentially, she is far slower and more susceptible to falling out of the air in these conditions. If her wings were damaged, her ability to fly would likewise be hindered depending on the extent of the damage. Megan's wings are thin and gossamer and aren't built for heavy lifting, as evidenced by her body's physiological need to be lighter than average. The amount she can carry while sustaining flight is thus limited. Carrying another person during flight would be extremely tiring, the speed would be slow, and she would not be able to last for very long.
- Pixie Dust: Produced inside the latticed veins of Megan's wings is a glittering dust composed of a previously unknown chemical substance. This chemical which the institute files now call 'Pixite' and which Megan herself calls 'Pixie Dust' is stored inside her wing membranes and can be secreted through two locations. Firstly, the porous membranes of her wings themselves can leak the dust, which when stirred up by her wings creates a small radial burst of dust. Secondly, specialized ducts run through her body to her hands, allowing her to expel the dust through miniscule pores in her hands into her palms which she can then either throw or blow into the air around a potential victim.
The 'Pixie Dust' typically glitters in the light when used in high quantities and when it is inhaled by anyone other than herself it has a hallucinogenic effect, similar to that produced by LSD. Almost instantaneously after inhaling, the victim of Megan's dust will become disoriented. This disorientation manifests through intense audiovisual stimuli including objects appearing to move, colours obtaining taste and scent, inanimate objects taking on the characteristics of living things such as breathing or speaking, things swaying and dripping. The possibilities are endless, truly. While one person might lose their grip on what’s real, another might be assaulted by unicorns and the like. Perspectives are deceiving and one's perception of reality is not to be trusted. Even some of the most practiced tasks can become arduous through the disruption of a person's spatial senses. A strong enough dose of 'Pixie Dust' has even been known to disrupt a person's conception of self to the point that there is an inability to distinguish one's self from their surroundings.
Ultimately the effect varies from person to person dependent on their own psyche, their emotional state, the strength of the dose they receive, and every external factor. Most people will not manifest the same effect consistently, though there is a tendency for the gruffest of people to see fanciful satyrs, unicorns and faeries as if their psyche automatically takes notes from the fanciful upbeat nature of Megan's. The hallucinations are unpredictable, truly. Megan has no control over what a person will see, neither does she know what the afflicted sees or experiences unless she is told. Her radial burst has a more limited strength dose and has an approximate maximum range of two meters, though the dust is easily carried on the wind. When Thrown from her palms she has been able to hit ranges of up to 4-5 meters. The longevity of the effect varies as much as anything else, a strong dose lasting up to half an hour. Sometimes the disorientation effects last after the hallucinations have faded. There has yet to be a method discovered to purge the effects faster.
Unfortunately, Megan has poor control over the release of her 'Pixie Dust'. Her wings constantly build up a supply of dust and thus bouts of absentmindedness will occasionally cause her to simply begin secreting low doses into the air without consciously deciding to or actually realizing that she's doing it. These lower doses don't usually bring about full hallucinogenic episodes, but they do still cause a number of problems. A strong emotional outburst from Megan can also prompt the release of her hallucinogens into the air. Since she is in the habit of constant flittering her wings, even when simply standing, these accidental releases usually get dispersed around her quite quickly. The dust is primarily a defense mechanism, and as such when her 'fight or flight' instincts kick in and she enters 'flight' mode, the dust usually gets used to allow her an easier and hastier getaway. Lastly, Megan is entirely immune to her own secreted dust and has an increased resistance against other perception-altering drugs.
- Unrealized Mystical Potential: There exists within Megan's body the potential for mystical power. This potential is something she has not explored whatsoever, nor has she shown any interest in exploring it any time within the near future. The extent of this potential is likely not a high degree as Megan lacks the motivation and concentration needed for studying. Mastery in this field is highly unlikely.
- Unrealized Dark Potential: As hinted by the way that her moods can affect the swirls and patterns of colour in her wings, Megan's psyche is strongly tied to her physiology and morphology. A severe enough psychic trauma, for example if Megan were forced to kill someone, has the potential of unlocking a darker aspect of her powers. Just as there were legends of beautiful fanciful fae spirits who danced and played in the hills and raths of the British countryside, there were likewise legends of cruel capricious nightmare-inducing spirits who would steal away lone travelers and children. Were this darker path followed, Megan's beautiful insect-like wings would be replaced with vicious-looking leathery bat wings. Their function would be exactly the same, but the change in visuals would be total. Likewise, her 'pixie dust' would instead be produced as 'nightmare powder'. Instead of fanciful visions, this version of the powder produces horrifying images of monsters and primal fears such as serpents.
Abilities:
- Linguistics: Megan's first language is English which she speaks with an adorable light Welsh accent. In actuality what most people hear her speaking is a toned-down version of the way she naturally speaks as when she first moved to America people found her thick accent and fast rate of speech to be far too hard to understand. She thus consciously works on diminishing her accent for the sake of comprehension, though her natural way of speech occasionally slips out. She is also bi-lingual and can speak the Welsh language as well as the schooling district in her area was of the heritage-reclamation variety and forced it strongly into the school curriculum.
- Singing: Megan absolutely loves to sing. While she has never received any formal training, she always has a song in her heart and when she's alone she usually cannot help but let it out. She's got a fair control over her voice and it is rather pleasant to hear but she usually squanders her talent meaninglessly on karaoke or on playing RockBand. She is proud as hell, though, that she can sing on Expert difficulty while playing the Bass on Hard at the same time.
- Dance: Megan likewise loves to dance. She doesn't know any specific styles, nor does she really want to. She just wants to lose herself to the music and let her body do what it wants to do. The end result, complete with the whirling of her iridescent wings makes for a very visually aesthetic show. Just as with the music that’s always on constant loop in her head, there's usually a dance step or two in her legs and a spontaneous pirouette as she moves down the hallways isn't exactly uncommon.
- Sewing and Clothing Design: This was a learned skill but one that was an absolute necessity after she sprouted wings from her back and made it so that normal clothed simply no longer fit her any more. Although it was initially just something she learned out of convenience she very quickly took to the art of clothing design. She rarely purchases something without first thinking of how she might want to customize it, besides simply adding wing holes. She has recently graduated this kill to making clothes for herself from scratch, but her passion is much more in the field of customization.
- Fashion: Megan is a huge fan of fashion. This is an indiscriminate fanaticism since she even loves reading and looking at fashions that she does not and would not ever follow herself. While her own style falls somewhere in a relaxed punk-ish style she will frequently watch fashion shows on television to see what haute couture looks are hitting the runways this season. She has supplemented this love by attending a variety of novelty fashion shows with such diverse focal points as a Steampunk Fashion Show, Swimwear, Bohemian Chiq, Retro, Business Attire, and a variety of others. She usually comes back from each one swearing to add something similar to what she'd seen to her wardrobe.
- Basic Self Defense: Megan is primarily a lover, not a fighter. But unfortunately, the rest of the world doesn't quite agree with that view, especially when espoused by such a visible mutant. To that end Megan has been in her fair share of altercations and has gotten knocked around pretty bad. As a result, she's got experience in scrapping and basic self-defense. She has supplemented these self-taught skills with courses at the institute over the past year.
- Psychic Static: Megan has a fairly heavy case of Attention Deficit Disorder and as such anybody looking to read her mind is in for some fun. Its not that its hard to get in there, just that its not so easy to get anything useful out of her. In addition to having to compete with the nonstop song and/or dance that’s in her head, her thoughts flit from one subject to another indiscriminately and she rarely focuses on one thing at a time or for very long before flittering to the next.
